John B. Hammond, III
John has more than 25 years of senior leadership experience across nonprofit, for-profit and governmental enterprises. He currently serves as a strategy consultant for several Atlanta-area nonprofit organizations, including the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (NCCHR), where he leads the planning, budgeting and execution of several programmatic initiatives related to education, DEI training and racial truth-telling. Prior to this assignment, John was Senior Director for Community Services at the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). At ARC he oversaw three major program areas and developed and led agency-wide and national efforts related to program strategy and development, as well as organizational change. He has also served as national President and CEO for the 100 Black Men of America, senior associate for Booz Allen Hamilton and on the faculties of the Harvard School of Education, MIT’s Sloan School of Management and Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. John is a graduate of the 2008 class of Leadership Atlanta and is a past member of the Regional Leadership Institute. He has also served as a mentor in Pathbuilders Achieva® program. He has received national recognition for his work with the National Association of Regional Councils, leading a series of conversations on racial equity with executive directors from more than 35 major metropolitan regions across the United States. John holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from MIT, an MBA from Emory Business School and has completed all but dissertation for a Ph.D. at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
